This print design project involving a recipe book cover and a two-page spread was a lot of fun to do. I had the opportunity to use some family recipes and create custom illustrations. For this project, the requirements involved creating a spread that included a folio (page number and description), the use of a grid, a cover with a spine, and a consistent layout. With that information, I created a short recipe book using my skills and understanding of hierarchy, contrast, and balance. I chose to use yellow and black as the main colours because they have great contrast and legibility for type. These colours also complimented the colours of the illustrations within the spreads. The rules (lines) within the design help direct the viewer toward the next steps of the recipe while also providing a break (breathing room) on the page that helps define the areas of the spread and separate the steps of the recipe.
