Background/Objective
The purpose of this project is to create a design solution for the Integrated Mental Health Strategy of St. Lawrence College that can be accessible at all three campuses (Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall), includes staff, faculty, and students, can be interactive, and promotes a conversation regarding mental health.
Concept
I chose to create a comic chapter, released weekly, where the content is based on daily struggles that people face, and how they deal with those struggles. This concept also allows people to comment on the content of the comics, vote on the direction the characters are taking, create a comic, and converse through online platforms.
From Design to Implementation
What started out as a project for my Graphic Design course turned into a job at St. Lawrence College. The Mental Health Strategy department enjoyed my presentation for this project and decided to try and make this concept a reality. I spent 12 weeks with the department sorting out the logistics of how comics could be integrated into the school's regular newsletter. At the end of my time with the department, I was interviewed about this design idea and how the college plans to make it part of its initiative. You can find a link to that article below.
